Reporting to the Manager of Applications Development, the Full Stack Java Software Engineer IV is part of a collaborative team responsible for the detailed design, documentation, development, unit testing and maintenance of internally developed applications supporting Availity’s Payer Spaces applications. This team writes applications per the request of healthcare insurance companies that are hosted by Availity and are in the process of migrating existing applications to AWS cloud. We anticipate this role to be ~70% frontend and ~30% backend development.

What you will be doing:
  • Solving healthcare problems & improving processes
  • Supporting, maintaining, and developing features for Availity’s Payer Spaces applications
  • Collaborating closely with another US development team on similar projects
  • Working on a team with several Software Engineers, Quality Assurance Engineers and a Product Owner
  • Working on a team following Agile Scrum principles
  • Gaining exposure to AWS and participating in the applications migration from on prem to the cloud
  • Using such technologies as Java, JavaScript, Node.js, React.js, & Aurora DB
  • Gathering technical requirements and designing efficient and performant solutions
  • Providing input on programming or development standards
  • Reviewing, consulting on and approving code written by other developers
  • Implementing a backlog of items to fulfill a focused roadmap
  • Identifying and maintaining technical debt while applying security principles
  • Applying micro-service architectures
  • Performing unit testing and complex debugging to ensure quality
  • Ensuring your code is efficient, optimized, and performant
  • Embracing continuous delivery and a DevOps environment
  • Fostering a culture of continual learning
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of progressive work experience designing & developing solutions for business initiatives
  • Possesses a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • Leverages or knowledgeable of the following languages & frameworksJava version 8 and above Javascript, React.js, and Node.js SQL (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) HTML/CSS/Bootstrap
  • Works with RESTful APIs and web services
  • Experience designing and using micro-service architecture.
  • Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design (OOD) principles.
  • An understanding of database design principles & query languages.
  • Leverages Git, Gitlab, Jenkins, Kubernetes/Openshift, Docker, or similar tools for delivery.
  • Implements code-based unit tests
  • Writes technical documentation
  • Gathers technical requirements
  • Evangelizes development best practices
  • Advocates for Agile software development methodologies
  • Designs efficient and performant solutions
  • Mentors others on technology-related languages, concepts, practices, & tools
